“My troubles are all over, and I am at home; and often before I am quite awake, I fancy I am still in the orchard at Birtwick, standing with my friends under the apple trees.”

-Anna Sewell, “Black Beauty”

this book and movie tears me apart.

but even more importantly, this book had HUGE historical significance.

for the first time, the plight of horses was truly called to everyone’s attention, and it was after the publish date (1877??) that animal rights really took off, particularly in regards with horses. a lot of it was due to this book, or that’s at least what some scholars argue.

another important note is that this movement and awareness was incited by a woman.

also the movie is awesome.
